The Lunge Lodge

The Lunge Lodge on the Upper French River

Hello ladies and gentlemen...

I have a Muskie question that is not related to the Lunge Lodge, but nevertheless, a question I suspect some of you can answer. I've had two completely different answers when I've asked this question recently.

In a lake local to me, there are Tiger Muskies. My question is... do they go through pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn activity? Now before you say "Duh, John! They're hybrids! Duh, John! They're sterile!" please understand that I know that. What I'm wondering is that even though Tiger Muskies cannot reproduce, do they know that? Or do they still have the "urges" but just can't do anything about it?

Thanks in advance!
~ John

Hi John,
Not much you can on this from a scientific point of view at all.

Back when we had Tigers all over Michigan ( hybrid stocking program), we always found them in the same places you would expect to find pure strain muskies at season opener. I can't say for sure if this was because they were driven to spawning areas because of an urge to be there or if it was simply a forage connection.
I'll try to find out more for you.
I have no Idea, but about 28 yrs ago we use to go up to Ludington State park and catch them in the little sabol river @ the mouth of Lake Michigan. They were a lot of fun and BIG... Frank
