"Scott is correct, you can get skunked sometime but it doesn't happen very often. Of my 52 trips to Lunge since 1972, it has never happened. Even if it does, it would still be a great trip. Could be why it's called fishing trip and not…"

Old school deep trolling for walleye

On trip # 47 in July 2016 I will be doing more old school fishing for walleye. Will be trolling deep, 35-40 feet, using The old "modified" U20 flat fish. Every year while there, I try this method once that was taught to me by my father in 1972. But this past winter I painted up 8 "modified" U20s in red and white, which I had no more of. For some reason walleye like that combination of colors. The other thing about deep trolling, depending on the depth of the walleye, you can get that "modified"…See More

Take a ride down the Little French River to Hall River

Some afternoon when the Sun is hot and the fish aren't bitting take a ride down the Little French and when you pass the dam on the left, you are now on the Hall River. Overhanging trees make it a shaded ride about 6' deep. On the right you pass the old Silver Dawn Camp. At the end it opens up with high rocks on the edges and about 30' deep. At the very end is a old trolly (roller) system. Many years ago, the only way to get onto the upper French River was to launch your boat in Mercer Lake by…See More

Chief Commanda at Lunge Lodge

Back in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s the Chief Commanda came from North Bay down the French river full of passengers touring the river. The ship made several stops to deliver mail and food supplies to Key Stone camp, Lunge Lodge and Dokis, to name a few. Back in those days Lunge had a large L shaped dock that the ship would tie to. The passengers would get off and have lunch in the dinning room at Lunge Lodge. When Barb and Wolf owned the lodge, they were told the dock would have to be reinforced…See More

July 2018 will be my 52nd trip to Lunge Lodge.

Four generations of the Bernhardts have been coming to Lunge Lodge. Starting in 1963 with my father John, than myself in 1972, my son Brian and daughter Jeanine in 1988, another son Kevin in 1998 and last of the Bernhardts is my grandson Alex in 2006. There have been many others in our group including my wife Jeannie, friends, 7 grandchildren and many other relatives. The point is Lunge Lodge is the place for all ages and I am grateful I have been able to be part of four generations of the Bernhardt experience for the past 54 years and my personal 53 trips as of July 2019

Hi Gary! Thanks for the Welcome. We are looking forward to our trip to Lunge Lodge. I have been going to Canada fishing 3 generations strong for 34 years and it is always one of the highlights of our year! We started out going North of Ignace above Thunder Bay on fly-In trips and have slowly moved south into eastern Ontario. I wish you were there over the same time span that we will be there - it's always fun to connect with a good group of guys who love fishing. I'm hoping we miss the black flies and don't miss the fish! Do you have any tips for us in terms of lures, colors, locations, etc..? I can serve as your advance team and will probably summarize each day while there to give a good picture of our time at Lunge. I have talked to Steve several times already and he has been really helpful.
