Thanks John. We were up several years ago and it was way too long of a wait. We look forward to coming up every year now. We had a blast and it was so nice to meet Mike and see Mary again. It brought back a lot of memories. We caught some nice fish and missed some big ones. The hospitality and guests are always top notch. I always meet new people and make new friends. However, I missed two decent muskies and they have eluded me. My time will come.
Charles - I saw your comment to John and his back to you. If you've never been to the Lodge, I would suggest you wait to get there and get some time with Mike Pettry once you're there. He's the Lodge manager and should be able to point you to some good areas. The beauty of the French is that it all looks good, and although you'll need to rule out a lot of spots, I've found they're all worth a try for a while. I tend to look for Rocky areas with weed growth close by, but, that's my confindence factor - I've caught fish in all types of structure up there.
As to lure selection, I gravitate to blade baits - bucktails and spinnerbaits, but crankbaits and plastics do the trick as well. Black and Orange works well, but Firetiger colors get it done, too.
Usually, I go back for a second trip the last week of August, but I think you'll be in the same type of situation the week of the 15th. The main channel is probably your best bet, but don't discount the back bays and coves. Good luck, and feel free to ask whatever questions you can think of. I check the site regularly and am glad to help anyway I can.
Hi John, I see that you sent me a welcoming email back in March. Thank you but I'm affraid that I have not been on the site since that time. I am on now because in about a month I'll be at LL and wanted to get an update on how the fishing has been. I see that you are from PA, which from your Pirates hat is probably western PA. Where do you cross the border when going to LL? I'll be crossing at Niagara Falls. How are the roads to the marina where you park for the lodge? I'll be trailering my own boat, any hazzards I should be aware of?
Now, to fishing. When are you going to be there? I'll be there the week of 8/15. If you'll be there then I'm good for a beer. Have you been to LL at this time of year? If so, where would you suggest I fish for musky, bass (L&S) and walleye? Any baits that work particularly well?
Please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help!
We where we on vacation when you sent me the post. My family just spent the week from July 21 to 26 on the upper french at our camp. The fishing was good for pike and bass. We only managed 2 pics for the week. Had a great week we seen a buck swimming in front of our camp and two bears on the way in dokis road
Please pass on to Mike and his great family, my best wishes! He was the glue that kept it
all together that's for sure. I really enjoyed his great attitude and each and everyone of
his kids and wonderful wife. I've got some great pic's of Todd giving his oldest son a Mohawk
haircut in the boat house.
I have very little patience with some things in life but when it comes to fishing and cutting
the "Y bones" out of Northern Pike, it is unbelievlable. I could be a surgeion!
I'd be happy to show you my method when we are up there together.
Again, plz give my best to Mike and Family. thx, rb.
