Scott - my first trip will be 5/28 to 6/6, so I'll miss you by a week. That third week of June should be prime for bass and you'll catch plenty of pike in between, although for the big girls, you'd need to target them with larger lures in the main channel areas. Soft plastics, buzz baits, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are my staples for bass and you may also find success with hollow-body frogs or toads in the lily pads, which should be prominent by then. Color is a personal preference. I use a lot of green-pumpkin on the soft plastics and chartreuse for spinnerbaits. Experiment - I'm sure that your VA tried and true methods will translate just fine. Good luck, take plenty of pics, and post 'em when you get home!
Most of our group troll for walleye and we also catch northern ,small mouth and sometimes musky that way. But for the most part it's walleye. Tony Petras does a lot of the postings on the web sit for the lodge. Make friends with him. He goes in May and again in September and does a lot of casting for northern, musky and bass. He would be glad to answer any questions you have. Trolling for walleye, we use mostly gold or red erie dearies. And black flies are gone by the end of May. any time you have questions about the lodge feel free to call me any time at 330-945-6604. if you have to pay for long distance, give me your ph # and I'll call you.
